LEWISTON – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jordan Wood released the following statement announcing his candidacy for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District:
“I’m running for the U.S. House for the same reasons I launched a campaign for the U.S. Senate in April. Our state, country, and democracy are in crisis, and we need new leaders dedicated to delivering big solutions to the big issues driving the affordability crisis: childcare, housing, and healthcare. We need a Congress that challenges the status quo, takes on the entrenched party establishments, and breaks the cycle of political corruption.
“Mainers are working harder than ever and still falling behind because Washington is rigged against them. After many conversations with my family and voters in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, I’ve decided to step up and to be the fighter for the district where I was born and raised.
“Growing up in Lewiston shaped who I am today, and it’s why I’ve spent the last decade taking on special interests and the politicians in both parties that sell out to them. I know what families who are living paycheck to paycheck are feeling right now because I’ve lived it. And while the prices of groceries and housing continue to skyrocket, over 50,000 Mainers are also going to be hit with health insurance premiums nearly doubling. This is a betrayal by the leaders we elected to serve us.
“Over the last six months, I’ve built a campaign that is ready to defeat Paul LePage. I’ve held town halls in all 11 counties of this district and I’ve heard voters’ anger firsthand. No one will work harder to represent this district than I will, because these people have made me who I am.”
@jordanwoodmaine I just made a big decision: I’m running for Congress in Maine’s 2nd Congressional district, where I was born and raised. Let me explain why. #politics #news #democrats #maine
