We came up just short. Flipping just 331 votes would have won us the nomination. Over 50,000 Mainers ranked me on their ballot.
I have never been prouder of anything. And I’m so grateful to you.
Fourteen months ago, I decided to run for office.
Our daughter Ella was three months old. I have spent this whole campaign watching her grow up, from her first crawl to her first words. I am coming home to her, to my husband Jake, and to a baby boy joining us this winter.
Our campaign was built by people across our state dedicated to defending our democracy.
Hundreds of volunteers. Over 9,000 contributions from Mainers. Not one dime from corporate PACs or lobbyists. That is what change looks like.
We knocked on thousands of doors and held more than 40 town halls. I listened to Mainers tell me what they are afraid of losing and what they still hope for. I will not stop fighting for you: Medicare for All, universal childcare, new gun safety laws, and housing working families can actually afford.
To the hundreds of volunteers who gave their nights and weekends, and to Lewiston-Auburn for showing up the way you did: thank you. To my team, who stuck with me through every hard day, I can never repay you. To my parents. To Jake, my partner in everything. And to Ella, who I did all of this for.
I’m proud to have run alongside three incredible candidates in our primary. Matt Dunlap and Joe Baldacci are dedicated public servants, who have spent decades working to improve the lives of Mainers. Paige Loud, a social worker & friend with the courage to step forward, who made me a better candidate and inspired people across Maine.
I do not know exactly what comes next. For now, I am going to spend time with my family, get ready for our son, and hold the people I love a little closer.
Thank you, Maine. To the more than 50,000 of you who ranked me on your ballot, I am humbled by your trust. To every person in our state, you have given me the privilege of my life, and I am not done fighting for you. Not even close.
